Fall 2017 USAC Youth Bouldering Competition Team
Team Urbana Boulders Tryouts:
Tryouts will be held on September 2 at 10 A.M. There is a small fee of $5 to enter tryouts. Only 4 competitors from each category will be accepted on to the team. Criteria for team selection are the following four items:
- attitude (a positive attitude through success and failure)
- skill (at minimum, climbers should be able to consistently finish blues, V1)
- leadership (competitive athletes are role models in the gym)
- problem solving (sequence reading and outside-the-box thinking)
A list of who made the team will be posted at the conclusion of the tryouts. A 30 minute parent's information meeting will be held at noon.
The goal of our youth competition team is to encourage the physical and mental potential and self-driven development of each team member in a fun and safe environment to become the best person and climber they can be. The fall team will compete in USAC bouldering competitions. The season will run from September to mid-December. Practices will be every Monday and Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30, excluding holidays. Climbers are expected to be a member of Urbana Boulders, join USA Climbing as a competitor, travel to and compete at 2 "local" comps, travel to and compete at the Regional Championship on Dec. 9, and supply 1 adult volunteer for each championship event they attend.
Coach Lisa has extensive competitive climbing background. She is a five time Youth National Champion. From 1997 to 2002 she was a member of the USA National Climbing team and has competed at 25 World Cup and International climbing competition events. She has been coaching at Urbana Boulders since January 2016 since the inception of the youth program.
Team uniform and class materials - $30 (one time fee)
Monthly dues - $55 (in addition in UB membership, can be set up as monthly EFT)
Note - this is a travel team participating in events nationally sanctioned by USAC; team members must own their own climbing gear, join USAC as a competitor and provide for their own registration fees and travel to a minimum of 2 "local" events and the Regional Championships, Dec. 9.
