Boneyard Boulders: Urbana Boulder’s second location
Image render of Boneyard Boulders
We’re excited to share that Boneyard Boulders will soon open its doors in Champaign! This new location, nestled on the corner of University and First Street, will offer twice the climbing surface of Urbana Boulders, along with yoga and movement studios, a fitness area, and plenty of open spaces for members to work, study, or just hang out. We hope Boneyard Boulders becomes a place where people can not only climb but also gather, recharge, and connect.
With the support of the City of Champaign and the encouragement of our community, we can’t wait to be a part of the growing midtown area and serve as another option for community. Thank you to everyone who’s helped make this dream a reality—we’re so grateful to have you with us.

Spring 2025: demolition & Construction
Before we could begin building our climbing walls, there were a few (major) adjustments that needed to be made to the building. The largest of being the demolition and rebuilding of two concrete, three-floor stairwells. The contractor construction work began early spring into early June.
June - July : the wave wall
The first wall to be erected was dubbed the ‘Wave Wall’ due to its continuous change in curvature. From beginning as an inclined-slab wall to ending overhung, this wall offers so many unique climbing and setting opportunities.
All walls were built in-house and collaboratively designed between the owner and our amazing local architect, Erin!
July - August: so much wood
With the Wave Wall fully erected and nearly complete, we have been busy at work cutting out the slabs for both the island and west wall. Each slab of wood is cut by our CNC machine, prepped, primed, textured, epoxied, and drilled for t-nuts prior to being connected and mounted. There is over 1000 sqft of climbing and 150 panels for just the island!
